Materials Identification

Identification of materials out of which the investigated objects were made is carried out by comparing attenuation coefficients resulting from tomographic reconstruction with standard data belonging to the database.

Such an example is shown in the figure representing the tomogram of an object consisting of various pure materials like : silicon, aluminium, ceramic mass, selenium, iron, pressed iron, copper, pressed copper, pressed iron-copper mixture, brass and molybdenum, shapped as circular or rectangular material rods.

The following image shows the hystogram of attenuation coefficients of materials out of which the the object shown in the tomogram is made. The attenuation peaks corresponding to each reconstructed material may be clearly pointed out in comparison with standard values found in the database.

The differences are less than 2% for a wide range of values of attenuation coefficients, namely for a large class of materials.
